Company Background

Shanley was founded in 1973 by Thomas and Catherine Shanley. Tom started his career in the Electrical Industry in the Avoca Mines of Rathdrum Co. Wicklow, Ireland and from there, moved to Whitegate Refinery in Cork. He spent some years with ESSO in Libya, North Africa before returning to take up a position as Senior Electrical Engineer with the Pfizer Group who were building a plant in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. Five years later both He and Kay started trading as Shanley Electrical Contractors Ltd.

The company's roots lie in the Petro-Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Process Industries. The high technological and skills requirement needed to service these industries meant that the quality and expertise of Shanley's employees was second to none and in fact many of those Technicians who started with Shanley back in 1973 are still with the company today, several approaching their 38th year of service.

Many clients are doing business with us now for nearly 30 years and we boast names such as the, Irish Distillers Group, Lawter International (now an Eastman Co.), Stafford Miller of the GSK Group, Irish Fertilizer Industries, Irish Refining and many more as long standing Business Partners in the Industrial Sector. Association with American Parent Companies has given us the opportunity to work abroad and we have to date completed major projects in Moscow - 2 years, Oevel Belgium - 12 Months, Kallo Belgium - 2 years 6 months, UK and Puerto Rico to name but a few.

The hard core of highly skilled and experienced technicians has been invaluable to the company, not only for what we can offer the customer, but in the quality of training we can offer to entry level trainees. This is endorsed time and time again as FÁS praise the quality of the people we send them and indeed several of our apprentices have achieved the Regional Apprentice of the Year Award.

We are a Benchmark Company in the field of Electrical / Mechanical Installations in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres and carry 3rd party Certification for the Safe Use of Electricity in Potentially Explosive Environments. This Certification is issued and audited by third-party Consultants in the UK.

Turnkey Solutions

In the early 1990's many of the main Contractors whom we met on the Industrial sites expressed a need for a Total Turnkey Solution for Building Services Installations, hence we entered the Commercial Market. We also started a Mechanical Division at this time, and to date, have completed many major Turnkey Projects.

Our Commercial Sector client list is also something we are proud of and are currently doing works for Trinity College, DCU, Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, Institute of Technology Tralee, Waterford Crystal and most major construction companies.
